To facilitate the Gujarat Technological University (GTU) to get its University Grants Commission (UGC) affiliation, the Gujrat State government has decided to hand over to it the Vishwakarma Engineering College campus, which is spread over 90 acres. It is mandatory for any university to have its own campus for getting affiliated to UGC.
According to reports, earlier GTU was eyeing to have 120 acres in Gandhinagar for its campus. Officials also revealed that earlier GTU functioned from the L D Engineering College campus which was later shifted to Vishwakarma College in Chandkheda. However, no allotment of land was made for its own campus until now.
Officials in GTU further revealed Apart from the Vishwakarma campus, GTU would also be required to set up satellite centres, which are mandatory for it to get 150 acres of land.
According to officials from GTU the state government had decided to allot the land near the CRPF camp between Gandhinagar and Chiloda in the year 2014. However, the land was flat and needed a lot of reclaiming work before it could be in a condition for setting up a campus.
They also said that the govt. has offered the campus and the Vishwakarma College building, which will serve as a college office or a campus college of GTU. Currently GTU is operating from a building, which was constructed on the campus.
